Personal Genealogy is where we got our start. We have been researching family genealogies for over 20 years. We were researching before the internet became popular. We are firm believers in original records and the use of archival research. We subscribe to the spirit of the Genealogical Proof Standard. As professional genealogists we must be sure that the information that we pass on to our clients is true and correct to the best of our knowledge. The Genealogical Proof Standard is a way we can ensure our clients that we follow an industry standard and we are not just shooting from the hip.
We are members of the Association of Professional Genealogist (APG) and the Puget Sound Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists (PS-APG). We are also members of the Washington State Genealogical Society (WSGS) and the Skagit Valley Genealogical Society (SKVGS). We continue to educate ourselves and bolster our knowledge in many areas of genealogy. We attend local, state, and national conventions. We subscribe to several trade journals so we can stay up on new records, software, and trends in genealogy. Attending classes and institutes like the National Institute of Genealogical Research (NIGR) and the Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research (IGHR) is another way we further our knowledge and expertise.
We research Swedish, German (Prussian, Polish, Russian), English, and Italian genealogies. Our researchers have good working knowledge of the Swedish, German, Latin, French, and Italian languages. We also interpret Old German Script vital records; these tend to be very difficult due to the intricacies of the alphabet.
Our office charges $40.00 per hour for standard research plus expenses. Expenses can include but are not limited to digital scans, digital photographs, archival access fees, photocopies, records fees, and travel expenses.
We also give free estimates for work and one hour consultation.
